As Ohio’s largest governmental energy aggregator, NOPEC drives collective climate action, empowering communities with innovative, tailored energy solutions while embracing the diverse needs of each community for a sustainable and resilient future.
Together, we work to accomplish this in three ways:
Aggregate
We make renewable energy more accessible with renewable energy content electric programs and by supporting renewable energy development.
Educate
We provide educational resources helping our communities and customers reduce their carbon footprints
Advocate
We advocate for legislation to make it easier and more affordable for Ohioans to live and operate sustainably.
TOGETHER, WE’RE BUILDING A BRIGHTER FUTURE
Through aggregation, we make renewable energy accessible with Renewable Content Electric options including our community-wide Green Community Choice Program, retiring over 9.9 million RECs since 2017. We support renewable energy development in partnership with our energy supplier, NextEra Energy. We facilitate regional collaboration between local communities, assisting with meeting sustainability and resiliency goals. And we empower consumers and communities to effectively navigate their energy needs and usage.
Through these efforts, we impact the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Since 2017, NextEra has contributed nearly $100 million
from NOPEC’s aggregation programs into their EarthEra® Trust. These funds are used for new renewable energy development projects in the U.S. and even Ohio.
Working Together to Provide Energy Education
From sponsoring energy education programs for Ohio students to participating at community events, engaging with local residents, NOPEC provides educational resources to help energy consumers make an informed decision about their energy choices.
We also equip communities and consumers with essential information to reduce their carbon footprints and learn about energy conservation, resiliency, and sustainability. And we foster informed decision-making, aiding municipalities on their decarbonization pathways and promote integrated climate solutions.

PROTECTING ENERGY CONSUMERS AND RESOURCES THROUGH ADVOCACY
Over the past 20+ years, NOPEC has worked to protect Ohio energy consumers in a number of ways. We work to prevent unreasonable utility rate increases and unfair regulation while preserving consumer choice, helping to save consumers hundreds of millions of dollars through our advocacy efforts. We also advocate for legislation and regulation of Ohio's utilities to make it easier and more affordable to be sustainable. We facilitate collaboration between Ohio communities and regional and national support organizations to create opportunities for additional sustainability and resiliency resources. And, with frequent reports of often misleading and aggressive door-to-door energy solicitors, our Do Not Knock program helps protect residents by preventing for-profit solicitors from knocking on residents’ doors.
